چکیده

The reciprocal dissipation factor Q of P and S waves is determined by spectral analysis of records of earthquakes whose epicentral distance from Tsukuba ranges from 36 to 76 degrees, with special emphasis on that of short period S waves. A constant velocity radiated spectrum near the source is assumed. The value of QƒÀ(Q for S waves) is found between 300 to 2400 in the period range from 0.1 to 1 second, and its average QƒÀ is 800, whereas Qƒ¿ (Q for P waves) ranges from 600 to 5000, and its average Qƒ¿ is 2000. The ratio Qƒ¿/QƒÀ is 2.5. Also obtained are Qƒ¿ and QƒÀ for the period range from 1 to 10 seconds in order to compare with those of short period P and S waves. It is found that Qƒ¿ ranges from 150 to 4800, while QƒÀ is between 150 and 2400 in the period range from 1 to 10 seconds. The average value is 1000 for Qƒ¿ and 600 for QƒÀ. The ratio Qƒ¿/QƒÀ is 1.7.

Thickness of Crust in the West of Iran Obtained from Modeling of Ps Converted Waves

Receiver functions are usually used to detect Ps converted waves and are especially useful to picture seismic discontinuities in the crust and upper mantle. In this study, the P receiver function technique beneath the west Iran is used to map out the lateral variation of the Moho boundary. The teleseismic data (Mb ≥5.5, epicentral distance between 30˚-95˚) recorded from 2004 to 2016 at 17 perma...

Analysis of Plane Waves in Anisotropic Magneto-Piezothermoelastic Diffusive Body with Fractional Order Derivative

In this paper the propagation of harmonic plane waves in a homogeneous anisotropic magneto-piezothermoelastic diffusive body with fractional order derivative is studied. The governing equations for a homogeneous transversely isotropic body in the context of the theory of thermoelasticity with diffusion given by Sherief et al. [1] are considered as a special case. It is found that three types of...

The Effect of Dynamic Permeability on Velocity and Intrinsic Attenuation of Compressional Waves in Sand

Stress waves contain useful information about the properties of porous materials; they can be recovered through different non-destructive testing methods such as crosswell, vertical seismic profile, borehole logging as well as sonic tests. In all these methods, it is crucial to assess the effects of frequency on wave attributes including velocity and intrinsic attenuation. The dependency of per...

Steep. Short-Crested Waves and Related Phenomena

Steep, short-crested waves, as well as a large variety of three-dimensional propagating wave patterns have been created in laboratory, utilizing a plunging half-cone. Monochromatic waves, over a range of frequencies and amplitudes through breaking and including soliton wave groups near resonance, have been observed and studied in a small wave flume. This monochromatic wavemaker creates complex ...

An Estimation of Wave Attenuation Factor in Ultrasonic Assisted Gravity Drainage Process

It has been proved that ultrasonic energy can considerably increase the amount of oil recovery in an immiscible displacement process. Although many studies have been performed on investigating the roles of ultrasonic waves, based on the best of our knowledge, little attention has been paid to evaluate wave attenuation parameter, which is an important parameter in the determination of the energy...
